Anna Mae Koo is a partner of Vivien Chan & Co, where she practices non-contentious, contentious and transactional IP law. She regularly advises on all areas of intellectual property, including licensing, franchising and other transactional intellectual property, due diligence and strategic acquisitions, prosecution, technical assistance and technology transfer agreements, trade practices and unfair competition law in China and Hong Kong.

Ms Koo is involved in many renowned international associations, including as chair of the Professional Development Committee of the International Trademark Association and the Litigation Committee of the International Bar Association. She is consistently named a Rising Star Lawyer in intellectual property by various publications.

Ms Koo is active among tech entrepreneur spheres. She was a Techstar mentor in London, serves on the Innovation and Technology Venture Fund for the Hong Kong government, an adviser for CapitaLand (Singapore)’s C31V corporate venture fund, and is on the Entrepreneurship Committee Advisory Group for Cyberport Hong Kong.

Ms Koo was a Prince Philip Scholar at the University of Cambridge and read law at Peterhouse, Cambridge. She has also obtained a master’s in real estate from the University of Hong Kong. She is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

  • Counseled on IPR protection and defensive protection in Greater China, assisting with IPR buybacks, assignments, investigation and franchising
  • Counseled on investigation, evidence collection and litigation strategy in support of administrative action and a series of litigation including unfair competition civil action in China for a major European fashion clothing brand in China against a PRC brand owner
  • Advised a Scandinavian-based IT service provider on sale of registered IPRs in China in a multi-jurisdictional asset sale
  • Counseled to US telecommunication entity in its acquisition of an interest in a PRC telecommunication group, regulatory approvals and compliance
  • Advised on privacy issues relating to collection, control and use of data by a website which collected customer preference data and further advised on the requirements for sending out electronic messages
